Journey to the Island of the Lost Souls

Once upon a time in an Island faraway, there lived a young Prince named Sakii. Sakii was kind, fun, loving and everyday was an adventure for him. When Sakii was very young, he had a happy life.

Until one day a big monster named Cancer came marching into the island and demanding that they have a battle. So the young Prince went into battle not knowing how to defend himself. The battle went on for years and than finally it ended. The outcome was not something he was expecting but he was just glad that he won the battle.

Before the monster took his last breath he took something away from the young Prince, his confidence and his happiness. As years went by the young Prince got more and more depressed because he felt that Life wasn’t worth living anymore.

But with the help of a few people he finally realized that even though he lost a part of his body, he should be happy that he is still alive and breathing and that he has a gift that would be a waste if he didn’t use it.

For my first fashion show I was inspired by Depression. I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma(bone cancer) at such a young age and years after my treatment I became really depressed. I joined CanTeen when I was 15 and I started getting involved with CanTeen last year. CanTeen have helped me a lot and I was surprised to meet a few people who have been through the same thing. Depression is a horrible thing and I am so glad that I’m well now and just enjoying life. For a long time I thought that I could never achieve anything and I hated my skin color thinking I was ugly.

I’ve met a lot of great people who have helped me to realize that just being alive is enough and that I should always be thankful for everything that I have, they’ve helped me gain back that confidence that I once had and they helped me to realize that I have a great gift and that I shouldn’t waste it.And like my auntie use to tell me USE IT OR LOOSE IT!! 

The journey to my very first fashion show wasn’t that easy. I thought it was going to be but damn it was hard. I had fun and getting there was so much fun and it was a great experience. I had a bit of a breakdown, a lot of unpicking, a lot of cup of coffees and a lot of late night sleeps to produce my designs. There was a point where I just felt like giving up, but than I thought of all the people who have always been there for me and I thought I need to finish this. I wanted to proof to people that I could finish something that I’ve started. I wanted to proof to everyone and I also wanted to proof to myself that I CAN DO IT! Nothing in life comes easy but you can not give up on your dreams. Depression is a horrible thing and it’s hard to come out of it but know that it does get better.

Thank you so much to everyone who have helped me to achieve this fashion show and to everyone who have always been there for me. First of all to God(the reason why I’m here and still breathing), to our CanTeen MLC Kent, Nags and Italia(PSC’s), to my sister Vase(love you sis and thank you for always believing in me), to Isaac(R.I.P, love you always and thank you for always encouraging me), to all my CanTeen friends(who helped me to come out of my shell and just be myself), to the two people who inspired me, my mum and grandma and to Tyra Banks(My Hero - she taught me how to love myself, YES I am BLACK!! but I am HANDSOME AND FIERCE and she pretty much saved my life). LOVE YOU ALL!


If you’re wondering what happened to the handsome young Prince well he’s just living life to the fullest, having fun and don’t worry he’ll get there(NYC!!).
